    Bede

    Bede (BEED; Old English: Bǣda[ˈbæːdɑ], Bēda[ˈbeːdɑ]; 672/3 – 26 May 735), also known as Saint Bede, The Venerable Bede, and Bede the Venerable (Latin: Beda Venerabilis), was a monk and an early historian of the church in England.

    He was a member of the sister Northumbrianmonasteries of Monkwearmouth-Jarrow. He spent a great deal of time at Jarrow with its large library. Both were in the Englishcounty of Durham (now Tyne and Wear).
